Nike Dunk Low Racer Blue Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

The Nike Dunk Low Racer Blue are very similar to the White/University Red colorway, except blue instead of red. I feel like these released a while ago, but they got a recent release on Finishline and I was able to easily scoop a pair.

These get their nickname from the colorway, but they kind of remind me of a reverse Kentucky type set up. Like if we swapped the blue and white areas of the shoe, we’d basically get Kentucky Dunk lows.

In any case, I really like how the blue pops against the white here. The “racer blue” shade is super vivid and that’s especially true juxtaposed against the white overlays.

These come in a plain orange Nike box with the stretchy blue laces. Not my favorite lace and no extras, but I’m overlooking all that because I like the colorway.

The $115 price point at retail indicates these are among the lower-tier Dunk releases. As far as GR Dunks go (GR = general release), these are about as plain and lacking in quality as any other release on this tier. I buy for colorway on a shoe like this, not quality.

Materials

So we have the stiff, thin, plasticky leather on these, similar to other typical GR Dunks I’ve picked recently. These aren’t quite as shiny as some of the pairs, so that’s a plus. I think the white overlay Dunks might just show the shine less though. On the positive side, you don’t have to worry about scuffing up the leather and destroying the value of these shoes. They don’t have resale value and the material here is meant to be beat up worry-free.

Fit & Comfort

These have a somewhat roomy fit that starts off stiff and narrow feeling but quickly breaks in. I found this sneaker to be comfortable as far as the uppers after I had a chance to wear them around for a few minutes. At first I felt like they were a bit narrow on the bridge of the foot, but this gave way to a nice broken in toebox area after a couple hours.

I opt for true to size with GR Dunk releases like these. If you are used to Dunks, you already have some idea how the cushioning (or lack thereof) feels on these. I would not expect to be blown away by next-level comfort, but these will be comfortable enough to wear for a few hours at a time.

If these are sold out in stores, you can try looking for them on eBay.
